At Last! Diving Back Into the Blogosphere

Welcome! I am not the best at introductions so you might be able to imagine how awkward I already feel attempting to introduce myself and this blog. Add to that the fact that it is quite possible 99.99% of the people who will read this inaugural post already know me, and yeah, it becomes even more awkward. So for the 0.01% of you reading this who don't know me, allow me to introduce myself...

{For everyone else out there, hang tight and I will explain why I have created this blog in a bit.}

My name is Rachel. I'm Minnesota born and Indiana raised - which makes me a good 'ole Midwestern girl. Sorta, but I will get to that in a minute. I went to a small, private liberal arts college located just outside of Cleveland, OH. I met my husband, Adam, there and a few months after my graduation in 2004 we were married.

{That's Adam and me at our rehearsal dinner. I miss that waistline.}

In May of 2005, we packed up and headed east to Richmond, Virginia. It was a bit of a leap of faith, but we have spent the last 7 years making Virginia our home...and we love it! So now I would like to think that in addition to some good Midwestern roots, I'm a little bit Southern too. Seriously though, while it is tough being so far away from our families, we have been blessed to make wonderful friends here and we have an amazing church family that we love.

The biggest change to our lives came a little over a year ago in May of 2011. After much waiting, hoping and praying, the Lord blessed us with an amazing baby girl, Adeline Mae (pronounced Ada-lynn). The past year has brought plenty of challenges, but this girl has brought so much joy and laughter to our lives.

So now for the rest of you (the 99.99%)...you're probably wondering, "Why blog?"

There are several answers to that question, but first and foremost it is because I love blogs. I have dabbled in blogging in the past, but mostly just as a means to keep family in the loop about our life in Virginia. And let's just say that I have done a very, very sub-par job of actually keeping everyone informed via the blogosphere. Still, I am an avid blog reader and clicking on my "Google Reader" each evening is like therapy to me. It relaxes me, entertains me, gives me food for thought, and oftentimes makes me laugh out loud. It might seem weird to some to read about the lives and experiences of complete strangers, but what can I say? I'm hooked!

A few months ago, after a 6 month return to work following my maternity leave, I left an incredible job with a fantastic company and group of people so I could stay home full time with my little sidekick. I LOVE being home with Adeline and wouldn't trade it for the world, but I think most stay at home moms will tell you that they enjoy seeking other outlets to voice their thoughts and share in "water cooler conversation" on a daily basis. So that brings me to this blog...why not join in the fun? I'm not sure if anyone besides my immediate family will have any interest in this blog, but that's okay. This is my opportunity to get my thoughts and opinions out there...our at least out of my head! I'm not gonna lie, I do hope that down the road this blog will give me the opportunity to "meet" other women across the country, but one step at a time.

Finally, what can you expect to read on this blog?

In short (that's a lie...I'm a chronic over-typer), this blog will most likely not have a very narrow focus. In other words, this is not a DIY/Decor blog or a recipe blog. You can expect me to cover anything and everything. Yes, I will most certainly be talking about my life with Adam and Adeline (gotta keep my mom happy...hi mom!). This will be a place for me to document our family's moments and milestones. I may also share a favorite recipe or details of a house project we are working on. At times I am sure I won't be able to contain myself from some sort of dialogue about the latest season of The Bachelorette or who I think is amazing on So You Think You Can Dance. If I read a great book, see a good movie (that doesn't happen too often post-baby), or become addicted to a new band I am sure you will hear all about those things. I might take you on a virtual window shopping trip when I come home from a stop into Crate and Barrel during which I drooled over a bunch of new merchandise. You get my drift...ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Like I mentioned before, this blog is my outlet to let my thoughts flow!

So again, welcome! I hope you will continue to check in with me. If you like what you read, please share my blog with your friends. Also, feel free to follow me on Twitter and Pinterest (see links on my sidebar). Speaking of Pinterest, does anyone else have a love/hate relationship with it? Love to browse, hate that it is a complete time killer, but oh I love to browse. Anyways, that's another topic for another time.

Later!

{P.S. - She doesn't know I am doing this, but a special shout-out to Jacquelinne with Smitten Blog Designs. She did a fabulous job of designing my blog and was great to work with. Thanks again, Jacquelinne!}
